Amlana

A delicious appetizer that can be served along with a meal or at any time of the day as cooling refresher in the hot desert summers. Sweetened tamarind water spiked with black salt,pepper and cardamom powder. Serve this drink topped with plenty of ice cubes to thoroughly enjoy its sweet and tangy flavors.

Ingredients:


Tamarind (Imli) 2 tbsp
Powdered Sugar 8 - 10 tbsp
Black Pepper Powder 1/4 tsp
Cardamom (Elaichi) Powder 1/4 tsp
Black Salt (Sanchal) 1/2 tsp
Salt To Taste
Chilled Water 3 cups
Ice cubes To Serve

For the Garnish:

Mint Leaves (Pudina) 1 tbsp (Chopped)

Method:
  1. Soak the tamarind in 1 cup of water for approx. 2 hours. Crush the tamarind and sieve the pulp through a muslin cloth. Squeeze out all the tamarind pulp.
  2. Add the sugar, pepper powder, cardamom, black salt, salt and 3 cups of chilled water and mix well.
  3. Serve chilled, garrnished with the chopped mint leaves and topped with ice cubes.
